Artist Lev Shteiman

Lev Shteiman was born in Russia in 1945. He graduated from the Art Academy of Leningrad and was a Member of the Artist's Society of Russia. He was a pupil of Lazar Dubinovsky, one of Russia’s most outstanding sculptors.

As a young artist, he accumulated a number of prominent awards, including: the Gold Medal at the 1971 Moscow exhibition "50 Years for Russia", first prize in the 1972 Leipzig group exhibition, the Silver Medal in the National Competition for Young Russian artists in 1969, and the prize for the Encouragement of Young Artists, Tokyo, 1968.

Shteiman immigrated to Israel in 1973. During his first three years there, he was featured in group exhibits in the President's House in Jerusalem, in the Artist House in Haifa, and at the American House in Tel-Aviv. He had a retrospective exhibit at the Habima, the Israeli National Theater, in 1980, which featured seven years of his work in Israel.

He founded the Society of Artists for the Advancement of Art in Israel in 1980. From 1974 to 1984, he dedicated himself to teaching art in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa, where he developed a loyal following of all ages. During that time he appeared frequently on Israeli television.

Shteiman has exhibited in Germany, France, South Africa and the U.S. His paintings can be found in both private international collections and institutional collections such as Bank Israel and Israel Discount Bank. In addition, his lithographs and posters appear in the catalogs of several European museums. M Press Graphics and Bruce Mc Gaw Graphics, Inc introduced his lithography in the U.S. in 1986.

Currently, he resides in the U.S. and paints in two distinct styles. His style has been described as classic symbolic art and modern art with classic techniques that creates incredible detail and vibrancy, producing effects like Tiffany glass. His subject matter is varied, but in every style he manifests an unquestioned mastery of expression, which stems from years of study of artistic techniques from different periods, and the creation of a personal synthesis in the sphere of art today.
